Location
Roughly speaking, Greater Binghamton (for this wikicity) is nestled between New York's Alleghenys and Letchworth State Park (New York's Grand Canyon) in the west, the snow belt and Syracuse to the north, the Finger Lakes wine country to the northwest, the Catskill Mountains in the east, and the northern tier of counties along Pennsylvania's border with New York as far as Harford and Scranton to the south.
Greater Binghamton is the junction of these highways: (I81 to Syracuse (north) and Scranton (south); New York Route 17 (also called The Southern Tier Expressway and the future Interstate 86), and I88 to Albany) and two rivers (the Chenango River and the Susquehanna River).
